  • Are you about to retire or newly retired and can finally transform your garden into a space that works for you, that you are proud of and brings you joy.

  • Or does another year roll around when you haven’t made any progress?

  • Do you seek a balance of outside living, being in harmony with plants and wildlife? Have you tried designing it yourselves, Googling for answers, asking landscapers directly but not getting anywhere?

  • Do you have ideas and a dream for your garden but lack the confidence or the knowledge to make progress on your own?

  • Has Chat GPT spat out some useful information but you still need help making it bespoke for you?

  • …..do you look at your garden and know it deserves so much more… and feel certain that something truly special and unique can be created there?

If the answer is yes, then working with a professional garden designer like me is the most sensible and rewarding way to bring your vision to life— especially if you are planning to spend a significant amount of money.

"Investing in your dream garden without first consulting an expert is like commissioning a masterpiece painting and skipping the sketch — you might still end up with colour on the canvas, but there's no guarantee it'll be the picture you had in mind."

How I help passionate but inexperienced garden owners on the road to a garden transformation.

  • From the very first conversations I am there to hold your hand and we are partners in establishing your wants and desires.

We will have regular catch ups and you will hear from me at least once a week.

  • I start with several hand-drawn concept sketches for the possible layout of your garden. Presenting ideas for layouts, solutions to problems you have, whilst always thinking about the environment.

  • Help with choosing materials to suit the style and vibe of your garden. Providing lists and plans of the plants that work and thrive in your soil so you can be confident in your choices.

  • Designs tailored to your budget, brief and how you will use the garden every day, and also in the years to come.

  • This ensures the design works in the space and construction happens without too much on-site discussion, saving time and money.

3D Planting software ensures the right type and number of plants can be ordered for garden.

Case study

One of my key strengths is the ability to zoom out from the immediate problem and see the bigger picture—to take a holistic view that often reveals solutions you may not have considered. I rely on creative thinking, intuition, and curiosity to dig deeper, asking the right questions that uncover the true needs behind the surface wants.

Often, what someone says they want is not what they actually need—and part of my role is helping them get to the heart of that realisation. I pay close attention to the psychology behind their desires, gently probing to understand what really matters and what emotional experiences they’re seeking to recreate or fulfil.

Take Arthur, for example. Initially, he discussed wanting a natural space, but through conversation, it emerged that his most vivid childhood memory was walking a wildlife path near his home. What he truly longed for wasn’t just a garden—it was a feeling, a connection to something nostalgic and grounding. So my focus shifted to recreating that emotional memory, not simply designing a space.

Similarly, with Kate, she mentioned wanting a willow tree in her garden. But as we talked more, she shared memories of sitting under a willow tree as a child—her escape, her sanctuary. I realised she wasn't just adding a tree to her yard; she was trying to bring a piece of her happy place into her adult life.

In essence, I help people articulate the intangible—transforming abstract feelings, memories, and dreams into meaningful, personal experiences through creative design.

In a previous life I worked for West Midlands Police for 14 years, but then with middle age fast approaching she decided to pursue a dream and in 2017 obtained her RHS Level 2 qualification in Horticulture and has never looked back.

In 2018 and 2019 Jo was a landscaper on the BBC make-over show 'Garden Rescue' with gardening legend Charlie Dimmock and garden designers, brothers Harry and David Rich.

This was a brilliant experience which gave Jo a real grounding in how to build a garden, construction techniques and how TV is not real life!
